{Rainbows}

I suppose I should narrow down those pictures, but well...it turns out I can't. I'm obsessed. I'm working on several other projects, but since they are gifts I can't really share them yet. This rainbow though...isn't it something special? I started it with plans to pick up stitches along the edges and create a felted basket. I still might...or I might use it as a little table mat as-is...or felt it and use it as a table mat that way. Or maybe I'll hang it on the wall so I can look at it all of the time... I can't decide. (Feel free to offer your opinion in the comments!)

I'm currently attempting to read my way through these three books...although if you've ever read them you will know this is a silly plan. I need to pick one of them, grab a highlighter (or really anything except a crayon) and settle in like I'm taking a class. They are just so fabulously full of brilliant information. Information I wish I had when I started parenting, and feel like I need to learn quickly so I can do a better job with some of the issues we are working through right now. It's just that I haven't really figured out a good way to read AND parent. My brain tends to become totally consumed by one thing at a time and it's hard for me to break off one thought just because it's time for something else. You can tell this in my housework really...either the bathroom is consistently clean OR the laundry stays caught up OR dinner is promptly cooked and served every evening. It's something I'm working on... I think the key for me (or at least the first step) is in really (REALLY) reducing the amount of stuff in our home. That is my big project right now, and I have to say it's going pretty well! I'm trying to focus on filling giveaway bags instead of finding homes for things because we really do just have too much stuff in this house. I'm already feeling calmer and seeing improvements and I am excited to share the results in another week or so (it's a slow process)!

I'm linking up with Nicole for Keep Calm Craft On, and Ginny for the Yarn Along, check out their blogs for more crafting/knitting/book goodness! :)

  2. 1st I wanted to ask...what kind of yarn are you using? I am terribly new to knitting and have been looking for a yarn that will knit up into lovely rainbow stripes. I guess more importantly any advice on how a yarn should look while in a skein to know if it'll knit up into such a pretty rainbow? Because I already know what weight of yarn I need for the project I have in mind, I just have no idea how to find a rainbow in the yarn!

    2nd, I so understand you feeling of being able to really be on top of one thing in your household well! I was just talking with my husband about our need to get rid of a ton of "stuff" that is taking up so much of our space and time! If you do manage to gain control you should post about it! I'd love to know how you did it!!

  5. Mackenzie, I just found your blog from your comment on my blog post about the fairy garden! So I'm a new subscriber and may have missed this from a previous post, but what brand/type of yarn are you using? The rainbow pattern is sooooooo gorgeous and my daughter loves everything rainbow. I'd love to make her a sweater from those colors. They are just a bit prettier than most rainbow yarns, though I think that may be somewhat from the way you transition between colors. Are you using a lot of colors or somehow getting transitioning between colors so that they kind of blend? Like when you go from green to yellow to orange, it seems like there is a lemon/lime color between the green and yellow and then a yellowish/orange color between the yellow and orange. As in, it there is not straight cut, with it being green, then yellow, then orange (when I majored in media, we called it a segue...). Does that makes sense? Anyway, if it does make sense, can you explain how you achieved it? Thus far, I haven't experimented with changing colors in my knitting, so hope this isn't too much a of a newbie question! :-)m

  6. The yarn is gorgeous! And I love books like the ones you have in your picture! I am big on sitting down with any type of reference book - but right now the ones most often in my hands are my canning books :-)

  16. That rainbow is so gorgeous! I vote basket - because what could be more lovely than a rainbow basket?

    I hear you on too much stuff... as I realize that I spend much of my day returning things to their homes or hoping/trying to find homes for new things, I am realizing I need to do a major purge of STUFF in our small little house! Good luck!
